After some slightly dubious maths and counting on our fingers, we’ve worked out that we have provided you 17 weeks of PUMA Social Club Jozi. While we think that’s pretty awesome, we also need to start resigning ourselves to the fact that all good things come to an end, and towards the end of March PUMA Social Club Jozi MUST CLOSE DOWN.
Now, we don’t mean to instill a sense of doom into your precious psyches, no. We’re not going to harp on the fact that that in just (hang on we need to count)…. Eight. Short weeks, we need to close the doors of PSCJ, pack the drum kit into our magical hot air balloon and set sail for our next destination.
While we’re not going to do that, we feel it’s only fair in our capacity as your After Hours coach, to get you prepared for the fallout of ‘PUMA Social Club not Jozi.’
In the coming weeks we’ll ask you to give us your pick of Jozi’s hottest (should we say 2nd and 3rd place) night spots, that we can recommend to everyone as a good venue to drown your sorrows in two months time.
Today, in preparation for this, and in preparation for week 18 at PSCJ, we’ll feature a number of venues you can go to AFTER Puma Social Club closes for the night. You see, our liquor license says we have to close at 2am, and in preparation for the inevitable, we suggest you don’t go straight home, but rather venture out to try these pre-fallout exercises. Think of us as Dr Phil, in much better shoes.
Great Dane – Our friends down the road have a pretty kick ass Friday night shindig, which goes on a bit longer than 2am. Great Dane never have a guest list, they run a password system, which means each Friday if you’re in the know (or do a little detective work) you can simply utter a phrase to the bouncer to get in for mahala.

Catz Pyjamas – An institution in Melville, if it’s a final drink you’re looking for (one for the road, you know, but we don’t suggest you drink and get on the road, unless you have a designated driver) or some insane late night munchies, Catz Pyjamas has what you’re looking for. It’s Joburg’s only 24 hour bistro, check them out.
