You’ve been to PUMA Social Club Jozi, you’ve drank from the fountains of Braamfontein and rolled in the freshly cut culture the city has to offer. We recently had a chat to the main man behind PUMA Social Club, Mr. Brett Bellinger, Marketing Director of PUMA South Africa. If he was cast instead of Tony Danza the show would of just been called, “The Boss”.

Here’s what he had to say about the club…

There have been a few PUMA Social Clubs in SA in the years past, around the country, why did you choose Jozi for the extended pop-up club?

Jozi was the logical place for us to explore an extended pop-up club. The rejuvenation of Braamfontein and the crowd that hangs in the area, as well as the new PUMA Store that is 100m up the road. These were all key factors in our selection of the site but mostly the consumers groups in the area.

What have been the standout points in the past year?

Wow, too many too mention. Every Friday has been epic and different. The acts for each night attract different groups but we have also developed a group of regulars who get in early and keep it going to the end.

‘One more time’ has become something of the PUMA Social Club anthem and old man Suttner knows this and drops it pretty much every time he plays and regularly tests those wooden floors.

I think the décor and setup inside and no VIP’s policy have kept it fun and casual – it feels very homely and chilled - and of course the fact that we open doors at 5pm and close at 2am… We get in early and get out early. Other cool things have been ‘The Claw’ and its special offers, the barmen’s moustaches, Kings of Pong, Angelo our manager’s antics to control that huge queue and of course the photobooth.

All this being said we have had some of the best of the music industry including those underground and up-and-coming acts and these are what keep them coming back. I guess our ‘Free on Registration’ or R20 at the door policy has also kept people interested.

PSCJ has become an institution in the Jozi nightlife, will we see a return in the future and what will be different?

Time will tell, we have just launched our Next Starts Now campaign and over the next 6 months or so all of that will come to life. One thing is for sure it has been a great success and we loved having the patrons coming out every week and we think they have enjoyed what we have had to offer.

The people of Jozi have contributed massively to the success of the club, it was because of them that the club stayed open for another 6 months, what is your message to all the fans?

I think Pharell and Daft Punk summed it up nicely:

We're up all night 'til the sun
We're up all night to get some
We're up all night for good fun
We're up all night to get lucky

Thanks to all the After Hours Athletes for coming out and scoring numbers and wins and respecting your hangovers. Its been legendary.

With only a few weeks left of PSCJ, what can everyone look forward to, to end off these legendary Friday nights?

Hmm, it’s a bit to early to let the proverbial… um… PUMA out the bag but what I can confirm is that Matt Suttner will be there ‘One more time’.
