Getting your PUMAs on and heading out to listen to the best music in South Africa is one thing. Yeah, we can totally see how you’d want to do that. Getting your PUMAs on, heading out, and seeing a piece of Jozi-born performance art consisting of an innovative combination of musical styles, storytelling, poetry and visuals – well that’s something else altogether.
This week’s PUMA Social Club in Jozi brings together a uniquely diverse lineup of some of the city’s most critically acclaimed acts. Throw these acts into the fray at your local music festival and they’d all be on different stages, get them in the mix at PUMA Social Club and you’d wonder why they’d never been put together before.
Your musical journey will start with Big Me, a brand new DJ duo consisting of Wim Jansen van Resnburg and Roxanne Maritz (Tht Grl DJ). They’ll be throwing down their usual blend of hip electro, indie and block rocking beats to get the party started.
Next, The Brother Moves On, a collective which can only be described as an explosion of musical styles, visual artistry and elaborate storytelling. Bringing all these facets together, TBMO whips any audience into a frenzy and achieves the rare accolade of being a truly original South African act.
The Brother Moves On is Siyabonga Mthembu, Raytheon Moorvan, Zelizwe Mthembu, Simphiwe Thabalala, Ayanda Zalekile and you can find out all about them here.
To round off the night we have another Joburg stalwart, Mr Matt Suttner, who after being dragged away from the frozen margarita machine, will smash up the dance floor for another week. Expect lashings of disco-funk, indie dance, deep house and whatever else takes his fancy.
If you haven’t joined us for a session at PUMA Social Club Jozi yet, you’ve got just two months left and we couldn’t recommend a better week than this Friday for some mind bending musical mayhem.
