ROYAL ADDRESS: KINGS OF PONG

There comes a time in every person's life where they must fight for glory, for their family name and for fun. Every battle needs a location and we're providing the arena where your dreams are either made or dashed.

Introducing the Kings Of Pong Tournament hosted at Puma Social Club Jozi every Friday evening from the 5th day of July to the 30th day of August. If you think you got what it takes then gather your troops and enter a team with 3 of your closest mates, or the ones who you think have the ping pong skills needed to lead you to victory. Victory in this case also means a R20,000 grand prize, and not just a trophy that your dear old mum puts next to the your pre-primary school attendance certificate.

Before you go about posting an advert on Gumtree recruiting team mates, you should start structuring your training regime. It should include exercises that improve on your short-range agility, quicken your reactions and strengthen your hand-ball-eye coordination - you may already be doing this. Here's our ultimate ping pong training guide fit for a king:

1) Stairs - Don't avoid them by taking the lift. Focus on your calf muscles to help improve your... um... leg agility, so you can be more... agile.
2) Side shuffles - Imitate crab movements by shuffling from left to right and then right to left over and again. We're confident this will improve your... agility... when required to move across table to return a well placed drop-shot.
3) Push ups - So you can announce the following to strangers passing by, "Hey howzit boeta, I blasted my pecs this morning, did you notice?" -- *Please don't do that. It was a joke.
4) Dropping the soap - Drop it and pick it up as quickly as possible. This will improve your reaction times - Ping pong is fast paced and requires focus and attention. Continuously doing this exercise will also be beneficial should you decide to drink and drive and get busted. Note: Do not cheat and use soap-on-a-rope.
5) Tea cloth tips - Basically all you have to do is stand around your kitchen and whip those pesky flies with a kitchen tea cloth. This exercise works on your hand-eye coordination as well as you reaction time. Probably the most important exercise you should master.
