From a country that is below all others... geographically speaking; from a part of the world where shrimps stand no chance against the mighty barbie; where sport means more than dear old mum's birthday: PUMA Social Club Jozi presents the surfer-indie-something-like-that rockers from Australia, The Dune Rats.
As the weeks go by, the fame of Jozi's Social Club reaches the shores of foreign lands... very foreign lands like Australia, but even though our rivalry is strong with the buggers, they've produced some of the finest musicians the world has seen and heard, the likes of: AC/DC, INXS, Wolfmother, The Avalanches and... *coughs loudly* Kylie Minogue *cough loudly again*. So, it's safe to say that the talent from this distant land is to be revered- The Dune Rats live up to expectations, add some flying colours if you'd like.
If you've never heard of The Dune Rats well here it goes: take 2 surfer type dudes, one on guitar the other on drums and both on vocals. Infuse punk-rock influences as well a "left of the dial" approach. Add really long hair, collared shirts that aren't buttoned, classic wayfarers and 5 panel caps worn backwards. These were the cool guys in school, the ones that made fun of teachers and regularly got busted for smoking behind the bike shed. They're now the cool guys in the real world.
Durban and Cape Town got their taste of The Dune Rats and, it's reported that after the gig, fans went wild in the street raiding 24 hour eateries without vandalising the property and paying for their meal - they bring out the rebel in all of us.
